Road Fogies: a couple of fogies traveling with their poodle

Day One

I woke Wednesday morning to a trembling poodle wedged between Tom and me. It was 4 AM, outside the thunder was booming and rain was pouring down. So much for the first day of our New England and Canada trip. With everything soaked and flooding in some parts of the county we decide to delay our start for another day.

This morning dawned bright with blue skies. We decided to get and early start so after feeding and watering the girls, packing our remaining necessities and making a coffee stop at McDonald's we were at the Motorhome and ready to hook up by 7:00AM. Figuring out how to hookup the dogs' harnesses took longer than hooking the Colorado to the Windsport. Then we were on the road east. We breezed through western PA until we reached the "highest mountain" east of the Mississippi. Dark clouds began to gather so I took a quick look at the weather map. Sure enough there was a big storm cloud right over us. (The rest of the state was clear). The rain began and before long was a torrential down pour complete with thunder and lightening. Tom was looking a bit stressed but poor Gracie was terrified, she has been frightened of thunder since the 4th of July when our neighbors celebrated with an abundance of fireworks. She managed some how to get loose from her harness and tried to climbing into my lap. I managed to reattach her, then she just stood there and panted. Maddie, who is usually very calm, was joining in trying to reach me.

It seemed that the rain continue for hours but we did emerge from the clouds just as we reached our destination for the night. We are staying i a city campground in Snow Shoe, Pa. After a long walk with the girls, dinner, a gin and tonic with some smoked almonds I will soon be tucking myself into bed for the night.
