Road Fogies: a couple of fogies traveling with their poodle

Good bye to Acadia NP, Hello to The White Mountains National Forest

Sunday, September 21

Yesterday we continued our journey south and west towards home but with many good memories.
Here are a few of the sights we visited on our last day. The Bass Harbor Light House, Bass Harbor, ME and the Bubble Rock.

Leaving Bar Harbor we traveled on a short distance on I95 before taking US 2 west to New Hampshire and the White Mountains National Forest. The road wound along the Androscoggin river through small towns and cities always with the mountains growing closer. Most of the land was given over to dairy farms, with black and white cows dotting the hills. I found the barns very interesting, they were huge buildings often 2 or 3 times the size of the farmhouse.

Finally we settled in Timberland Campground in Shelburne, NH on the North edge of the White Mountains. Our plan was to drive the Auto Road up Mount Washington, the highest peak in the northeastern US at 6,288 Ft was squelched by the news that it is closed for “Mount Washington ATV Ride". There is, of course, always an alternative plan. So today’s agenda will be a Moose hunt. That is we will use the local Moose Map to look for moose and maybe a few waterfalls and cover bridges also.
