Our second stop of the day was in Windsor, CT a short distance from Hartford. Our visit there was for a little ancestor hunting. Tom and I both work on researching our family trees. We also are both from the same European stock, English and German with some Irish for me. While checking on some records I discovered we are both descended from a common ancestor and one of the founders of the first settlement in Connecticut, William Rockwell. William Rockwell came to first Plymouth Colony shortly after the Mayflower and first settled in DDD. The English Colonist, fearing the Dutch in New Amsterdam, wanted to settle the Connecticut River Valley. William and his family joined this group founding the settlement of Windsor. We went there to look for his grave or those of his family unhappily we could not locate them but we did photograph a monument to all of these early settlers. The cemetery itself was very interesting containing the graves of several Revolutionary War veterans, and a few from the French and Indian Wars and the War of 1812. One of the Colonial Governors is also there.

We enjoyed looking at the town's historic homes, many had the dates they were built and the original owners names on them.

It was getting late and the doggies would need a walk to we headed back to the campground. First we had to stop for our dinner. The local grocery had a special on lobster, less than 5 dollars a pound. So we had beautiful lobster dinner.
