One of our disappointments when leaving Acadia National Park was missing the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain. The weather just did not cooperate at that time. Returning to the US on Tuesday we decided to return to the national park for a few more nights. The weather this time cooperated beautifully. Wednesday was sunny and warm, we slept late, lazed around the RV Park, did some laundry then went into Bar Harbor for a late lunch at a street side restaurant, then dessert at Blueberry Hill Dairy Bar. I had blueberry ice cream with wild Maine blueberries, very yummy.
The morning alarm went off at 5:00 AM, to make the 6:13 sunrise. We were not the only crazies on the top of the mountain, although not crowded there were many others waiting for the sun. The sky was rosy pink when we arrived slowly fading then darkening to red as the sun rose behind the curve of the earth. Out in the bay we could see a cruise ship coming into port. Small boats were moving along the shore and far below the lights of Bar Harbor twinkled. Despite the cold it was a very moving experience the first moment the sun touches our shores.
