Is it June 2016 already? The past year has flown. We did not travel much in Summer 2015 due to some serious problems, not with us but with Molly the Motorhome.
On July 4, 2015, Molly was assaulted! While waiting patiently for us to take off for some summer fun a gang of ne’er-do-wells broke into the storage area where she was spending her off time and assaulted her. They broke the window in the door and still not able access the interior they used a crowbar on her door. Once inside they ripped out her TVs, dumped everything out of her storage compartments, broke the bed frame and generally abused the poor girl. Needless to say, she was in no shape to travel. I will not go into detail on the repair and restore process, only say it was long, tedious and very stressful for all.
Despite her dings, we did take a few local trips. We took Gus, our Son’s boy, to Clay’s Park for a long weekend of swimming, paddle boarding and just lazing around. Joining up with Dale and Linda Hossler we spent a few days in Amish country enjoying the fresh air and, of course, the great food at Dale’s favorite Amish restaurant Mrs. Yoder’s in Mount Hope, OH. In late August, we joined Alisha, Todd and their boys, Owen, Ben, and Nate, and Gus for a weekend at Cook’s Forest in Pennsylvania. The highlight of the weekend was a tube ride down the Clarion River. Great fun for all. We also hiked up to the fire tower, made pies over the over the fire and roast hotdogs and marshmallows. Of course, the boys had to poke fun at our big RV and tell us that it is not really camping but they did appreciate the indoor facilities when nature called.
December 1st we headed south for our annual wintering in North Fort Myers, FL. Seminole Campground had become our winter home and we were anxious to get there. Soon we were joining our friends in rounds of potluck dinners, bingo, music, and fun. Gracie and Maddie were delighted to find another Standard Poodle, Kiko, now lived there and frequent Poodle Parties in the dog park began. We should not forget Bruce the black lab and the vizslas Hunter and Amber joining in the fray.
Tom and I are now preparing for what I am calling Our Grand Adventure! We will be taking Molly all the way to the Pacific Northwest on an extended vacation. (Can you vacation when you’re retired?) On takeoff day, we will begin a 4-day dash across Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska to Sidney, NE our first real stop. Sidney is the home of Cabela’s so Tom will want to do a little browsing that night.
One more stop in Nebraska to view the ruts left by settlers crossing the continent on the Oregon and Mormon Trails at Chimney Rock and Scott’s Bluff NE still visible after over 100 years. Then crossing the state line into Wyoming and the real west.
Thanks for reading.
